Shropshire South Riding Club Training
Training is the heart of the club because it is the means for improving our riding and enhancing the well-being of our horses. Having good quality training organised for you is one of the major advantages of being a member of SSRC.
- You know that the trainers are knowledgeable, experienced and with proven track records of helping riding club members.
- You are covered by the club's insurance during the training sessions.
- You can be assured that the cost of training is as low as possible; club funds make small subsidies to most training events and many of our trainers support the club by offering reduced rates.
- Training venues are as accessible as possible and spread around the area.
- You will meet like-minded riders when you attend the sessions.
- SSRC training is only available to paid-up members of the club.
In a very real sense, the health of any riding club is dependent on the quality of the training offered to its members. The SSRC committee sees the organisation of appropriate training as one of its core functions. Decisions about who we invite to provide training are informed by the views of our members, reports from other clubs, and the governing bodies of the disciplines.
SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE We offer a variety of training for members to enjoy with their horses:
- Flatwork/dressage, cross country, show jumping, etc.
- Demonstrations, talks, and meetings for members to attend and further their learning.
- We are conscious that the timing of training is also important, so we try to plan with the seasons and arrange cross country training in the spring, etc.
Structured practise sessions also form part of the training package. These are times when members are supervised rather than trained; there's someone to help, call tests, put up poles and keep an eye on the time, while riders are responsible for themselves and their horses' work. This helps to bridge the gap between lessons and competitions.
REGULAR TRAINERS We are fortunate to have regular trainers who can give that essential continuity of teaching
GUEST TRAINERS We also use guest trainers to stir up new ideas and approaches. Guest trainers usually give a demonstration of their work with volunteer riders so the audience have an understanding of the system of training being used. Members can then book one or two sessions with their own horse, knowing what to expect from the guest trainer.
